Sunday Morning Hike- Rockport South Woods

Join us for a hike in the Rockport South Woods, visiting Rum Rock Lake and traversing parts of the Luce Trail.

Our route takes us from the Rockport DPW across the Cape Pond dike, up the South Woods fire road to Rum Rock Lake, then back down through the forest via the Lane's Farm Extension and the mountain bikers' "Spiderman Trail", joining the Luce Trail as it makes its way through the South Woods.  Click HERE to see a map of the hiking route in Gaia GPS.

This is a moderate hike on mixed terrain with both easy sections and more difficult "whalebacks" (exposed granite outcroppings, some of which are relatively steep). There may be a few wet spots.  Total distance is 2.62 miles; allow about 2 hours due to the whalebacks.

Meeting Spot:   

We will meet at the parking area between the Rockport DPW and police station, on upper Main St (Route 127) in Rockport.  See the location HERE in Google Maps.

Please arrive early (we recommend planning to arrive between 9:50 and 9:55 am in order to be ready for the group's 10 am departure).  The hike will depart promptly at 10 am.

Note that parking spaces are limited, so we encourage carpooling.  We will email registrants before the hike date to facilitate carpooling.
