Join us for a presentation and hands-on trail workday on "Forest De-Vining" at Dexter Pond in Manchester with Chris Ozyck, Associate Director and Natural Areas Expert for the Urban Resources Initiative at Yale School of the Environment.

"De-Vining" is a technique of cutting invasive vines from trees in order to improve the health of the forest.  This work is an important part of URI's efforts to fight climate change and conserve carbon in our urban canopy.

The presentation and guided trail work will take a total of two hours, and we will focus our work on two areas along the edge of the half-mile Dexter pond  loop trail where trees are being threatened by extensive vines.  To view a flyer explaining more about De-Vining, click HERE.

Dexter Pond Conservation Area is owned by the Town of Manchester and is adjacent to Greenbelt's newly acquired DeNormandie Woods property.  See Greenbelt's DeNormandie Woods Map for reference (look for Dexter Pond Conservation Area in the bottom left of the Greenbelt map).  Click HERE for a map that highlights the Dexter Pond loop trail.

What to Bring:

If you plan to join us in the De-Vining work, make sure to bring work gloves and wear sturdy clothing and jackets that can hold up against possible thorns!  Also insect repellent is recommended as a caution against ticks.  This work will be done with hand-tools.  Bring clippers, loppers, or small saws if you have them, and we will also have tools to hand out for those who need them.

Meeting spot:

We will meet at the dirt parking area next to Dexter Pond off Colburn Rd.  See the location in Google Maps HERE.   Some cars will park in this lot, and when this lot is full there is another pullout parking area 0.4 miles further down Colburn Rd. at the DeNormandie entrance (refer to Greenbelt map linked above).  Plan to arrive early enough to allow enough time to find parking and walk to the meeting location.

NOTE:  The number of registrations available for this event are limited based on the number of cars that can fit in the parking areas on Colburn Rd.

If you would like to bring additional guests in your car to this event, we can accommodate more people as long as it does not mean more cars Email us at contact@capenntrailstewards.org to add additional guests to your registration (include the name of each guest that will be attending with you).
