Join us for a hike that explores several distinctive areas of Ravenswood, from the lowland Magnolia Swamp on the west to the highland pine woods on the east.
(Note that this is the same hike that was originally scheduled for 3/30 but was cancelled several times due to weather. Let's hope for good weather on 4/27!)
A variation on prior routes, this hike offers a mix of terrain – starting with the easy boardwalk through Magnolia Swamp, to wide carriage roads, then narrow winding trails on the east-side "inner loops," through deep “old growth” woods.
Along the way, we will see vegetation of all types, getting ready for spring, with dramatic boulders at every turn. The view from the lookout on Ledge Hill Trail is always spectacular-- and on this hike, we will have a bonus by stopping there twice, coming from different directions.
The trails vary from easy to moderate, with many ups and downs along the way. Total distance is about four miles. Allow two hours for this hike. See the map and route here.

Meeting spot: We will meet at the Ravenswood Park main entrance at 481 Western Avenue (Route 127) in Gloucester. See the Google map location HERE.
Please arrive early (we recommend planning to arrive between 9:50 and 9:55 am in order to be ready for the group's 10 am departure). The hike will depart promptly at 10 am.
Please note that dogs are not permitted on the Sunday Morning Hikes. If you are interested in getting notified of Dog-Friendly hikes with the Cape Ann Sunday Hikes group, you can join their Google group list from The Cape Ann Sunday Hikes home page.
