Join us for an informational hike at Poles Hill in Gloucester with conservation and restoration ecologist Tim Simmons!

This hike follows a presentation that was given by Tim Simmons on Cape Ann Fire History & Ecology at our recent Annual Meeting on Tuesday, June 4.

Poles Hill was affected by extensive fires in the summer of 2022.  Tim will take us on a walk through the area to examine the post-fire regrowth, and educate participants on the ecological changes in this area brought about by the fire.

(Photo of the charred landscape at Poles Hill, taken in December 2022, a few months after the fire)

Allow two hours for the hike and talk.  The terrain is moderate, with boulders and granite ledge.  Total walking distance estimated to be 1-2 miles.

Meeting Spot:   We will meet at the entrance to Poles Hill off of Riverview Rd. in Gloucester.  The entrance is a small dirt road on the left (when coming in from Wheeler St.), just after the house at 6 Riverview Rd.  See map of the Poles Hill Entrance location HERE.

You may park on the side of Riverview Rd., and there are also some parking spaces by Brown's Field at the intersection of Wheeler St. and Apple St.  Please be courteous to the neighbors!

Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early  in order to be ready for the group's 9am departure.  The hike will depart promptly at 9am.
