Join us for a hike that will take us under the historic Stone Arch Bridge and up onto the trails that pass by many of Pigeon Cove's legendary granite quarries.
We will see Flat Ledge Quarry, Carlson's Pit, and more, plus an extra little gem hidden away near Flat Ledge. Lots of history here! Granite from these quarries was shipped all over the U.S. for streets, monuments and buildings.
Along the way we will see remnants of the granite industry, explore the woods now grown up around them, and enjoy spectacular views out to sea as well. Overall, it is an easy to moderate hike, just under 4 miles, with normal ups and downs.
Meeting Spot: We will meet at the Granite Pier on Route 127/ Granite Street in Rockport. Please park on the upper level of the pier, on the right side.
Please arrive early (we recommend planning to arrive between 9:50 and 9:55 am in order to be ready for the group's 10 am departure). The hike will depart promptly at 10 am.
Please note that dogs are not permitted on the Sunday Morning Hikes. We have a Dog-Friendly Hikes group which is now repeating each Sunday Morning hike the following month. You can join the Dog-Friendly Hikes Google group from our home page to get announcements of each Dog-Friendly hike.
