Join us for a hike at the Trustees of Reservations Ravenswood Park, where we will explore several distinctive areas, from the lowland Magnolia Swamp on the west to the rock-strewn highland pine woods on the east. See the map and route HERE in Gaia GPS.
The route offers a mix of terrain-- starting with the easy boardwalk through Magnolia Swamp, then north on wide carriage roads to the rugged Ledge Hill Trail, where we will stop for the harbor view, then follow narrow winding trails in a loop through the deepest parts of the woods.
Along the way, we’ll see ferns and lush vegetation, old growth pines, and distinctive “erratic” boulders. We’ll also take a quick detour to the site of the legendary hermit’s cabin.

The trails vary from easy to moderate, with many ups and downs along the way. Total distance is about 4 miles; allow two hours from the starting point.
Meeting Spot: Meet at the park entrance at 481 Western Avenue (Route 127) in Gloucester.
Please arrive early (we recommend planning to arrive between 9:50 and 9:55 am in order to be ready for the group's 10 am departure). The hike will depart promptly at 10 am.
Please note that dogs are not permitted on the Sunday Morning hikes. The Cape Ann Sunday Hikes group has a Dog-Friendly Hikes group which is repeating each Sunday Morning hike the following month. You can join the Dog-Friendly Hikes Google group from The Cape Ann Sunday Hikes home page to get announcements of each Dog-Friendly hike.
