Join us for a spring hike through the rugged woodlands of Greenbelt's Tompson Street Reservation in West Gloucester.
(Note that this hike was rescheduled to May 7 due to rain on the original date of April 30).
Our route will take us on boardwalks, over wetlands, along historic cart roads, and to the top of Eagle Rock, which stands at 170 feet and offers scenic vistas to New Hampshire and Maine. See the map and route here.
The hike is a mix of wide carriage roads, and single-track trails, and the terrain overall is moderately challenging, especially approaching Eagle Rock
Total distance is about 2.8 miles (though a relatively short hike in distance, it can be slow going due to the terrain-- allow two hours from the starting point).
Meeting Spot: Meet at the roadside parking lot on Concord Street, adjacent to the westbound Concord St. exit from Route 128 (Exit 54).
Please arrive early (we recommend planning to arrive between 9:50 and 9:55 am in order to be ready for the group's 10 am departure). The hike will depart promptly at 10 am.
Please note that dogs are not permitted on the Sunday Morning hikes. The Cape Ann Sunday Hikes group has a Dog-Friendly Hikes group which is repeating each Sunday Morning hike the following month. You can join the Dog-Friendly Hikes Google group from The Cape Ann Sunday Hikes home page to get announcements of each Dog-Friendly hike.
