Registration

Registration is closed

This is a repeat of the 1/22/23 Sunday morning hike.  If you joined us for that hike, please do not register for this hike, so as to give others the chance to hike this route.  Thank you!

Please join us for a hike that will take us along the Squam Path, Anne's Path, and the Dennison Trail into the Norton Memorial Forest, and back.  The Squam Path and the Dennison Trail date back to colonial times as the roads connecting the Sandy Bay settlement (which became Rockport) to Annisquam and to a mill located near the north end of present day Holly St, Gloucester.  The Norton Forest was planted in the middle decades of the 20th century and is maintained by the New England Forestry Foundation.

We’ll start at the Squam Path trailhead at the end of Squam Rd, Rockport, and follow the Squam Path and Anne's Path to the northeast entrance to the Norton Forest, loop through the Norton Forest, and return via the Dennison Trail and Squam Path.  See the route here:  https://www.gaiagps.com/public/QTeXD94wynyjiId3pghRPHoq

This is a relatively easy hike, with a few moderate sections in the Norton Forest, and plenty of rocks and roots underfoot. It is 3.5 miles, and with stops, could take up to 2.5 hours – but should be less.

A limited number of dogs are allowed to participate in this hike (this is in contrast to the regular Sunday Morning Hikes, where dogs are not allowed).  One dog per hiker, and dogs must be leashed (remember to bring poop bags for your dog too!).  Total number of dogs in the group will be limited to 5.

If interested in bringing a dog, please email us at contact@capeanntrailstewards.org  to find out if there are still "dog spaces" available!

Meeting Spot  The hike will begin at the end of Squam Rd, Rockport (see the hike map for specifics).  Please arrive early. The hike will depart promptly at 1 PM.

Due to limited space for cars at the end of Squam Rd., and our desire to minimize disturbance for the  residents near the trailhead, we are asking those willing to carpool (please bring a mask if carpooling) to meet us at the Whistlestop Mall (near Walgreens parking area) at 12:50, to be ready to head up to Squam Rd. by 12:55.  Thank you in advance!
