Please join us for a hike that will take us along the Squam Path, Anne's Path, and the Dennison Trail into the Norton Memorial Forest, and back. The Squam Path and the Dennison Trail date back to colonial times as the roads connecting the Sandy Bay settlement (which became Rockport) to Annisquam and to a mill located near the north end of present day Holly St, Gloucester. The Norton Forest was planted in the middle decades of the 20th century and is maintained by the New England Forestry Foundation.
We’ll start at the Squam Path trailhead at the end of Squam Rd, Rockport, and follow the Squam Path and Anne's Path to the northeast entrance to the Norton Forest, loop through the Norton Forest, and return via the Dennison Trail and Squam Path. See the route here: https://www.gaiagps.com/public/QTeXD94wynyjiId3pghRPHoq
This is a relatively easy hike, with a few moderate sections in the Norton Forest, and plenty of rocks and roots underfoot. It is 3.5 miles, and with stops, could take up to 2.5 hours – but should be less.
Meeting Spot: We will meet at the end of Squam Rd, Rockport. See the hike map for specifics.
Please arrive early. The hike will depart promptly at 10 AM.
Please note that dogs are not permitted on the Sunday Morning hikes. The Cape Ann Sunday Hikes group now has a Dog-Friendly Hikes group which is repeating each Sunday Morning hike the following month. You can join the Dog-Friendly Hikes Google group from The Cape Ann Sunday Hikes home page to get announcements of each Dog-Friendly hike.
