Sunday Morning Hike- Tompson Street to Eagle Rock

Join us for a late winter hike through the rugged woodlands of Greenbelt’s Tompson St. Reservation in West Gloucester.  Our route will take us on boardwalks, over wetlands, along historic cart roads, and to the top of Eagle Rock, which stands at 170 feet, and offers scenic vistas to New Hampshire and Maine.  See the map and route here.  

The route is a mix of wide and narrow trails, and the terrain overall is moderate, especially approaching Eagle Rock.   Total distance is about 2.5 miles.  Though a relatively short hike, it can be slow going given the terrain.  Allow two hours from the starting point.   

Meeting place:    Meet at the roadside parking lot on Concord Street, adjacent to the westbound Concord St. exit from Route 128 (Exit 54).   Please arrive early.  The hike will depart promptly at 10 AM.

As always, please wear proper hiking footwear and bring water; also poles if you use them. At this time of year, be prepared for wet and muddy conditions. 

Please note that dogs are not permitted on the Sunday Morning Hikes.

In the event of rain or snow, the hike may be cancelled, and an email notification will go out at 8 AM the day of the hike.  

Registration is limited to 20.  Please register early to ensure a spot, and if you cannot make it, please cancel your reservation, so others on the “wait list” can attend.   Please do not be a “no show.”
